Title: UE features for low band CA via switching
Document for: Discussion and Decision
|
Conclusions
In this contribution, the following are proposed:
Proposal 1: For low NR band carrier aggregation via switching, one FG 68-1 is introduced with the following:
Component:
Support of semi-static carrier switching between two inter-band carriers with a configured switching pattern in which a UE is not expected to be operated simultaneously with both carriers for any downlink reception and uplink transmission with the required switching period and uplink TA taken into account.
FFS: others
Note:
Note: It is up to RAN2 to determine whether the FG can be combined with RAN4 FG x-x as single capability signal.
Proposal 2: For low NR band carrier aggregation via switching, the prerequisite of FG 68-1 is FG 6-5 and the switching period introduced in RAN4.
Proposal 3: For low NR band carrier aggregation via switching, the granularity of FG 68-1 is per BC.
Optional with capability signaling
Proposal 4: The table in the Appendix is taken as the starting point for further UE feature discussion on Rel-19 low band CA via switching.

Conclusion
This contribution concludes with following proposals:
Proposal 1: The components of the main FG for LBCA at least include following.
Component 1: Semi-static configuration of periodic switching pattern in bitmap for the switching between the following two cases, where FDD carrier 1 is PCell and SDL carrier 2 is SCell.
Case 1: Tx/Rx on FDD carrier 1 and no Rx on SDL carrier 2
Case 2: Rx on SDL carrier 2 and no Tx/Rx on FDD carrier 1
Component 2: The time unit of the semi-statically configured switching pattern is 1ms slot, and the switching pattern periodicity is 40 1ms-slots.
Proposal 2: The main LBCA FG has no prerequisite FG.
Proposal 3: The granularity of LBCA FG is per BC.
Proposal 4: The FDD/TDD differentiation for LBCA FG is marked as N/A.
Proposal 5: The FR1/FR2 differentiation for LBCA FG is marked as FR1 only.
A preliminary UE feature table based on above discussions is given in the Appendix.

Conclusion
In this contribution, based on the agreements so far, we made the following proposal on RAN1 related UE FG for LB CA via switching:
Proposal 1: For Low NR band carrier aggregation via switching, one FG XX-YY is introduced with the following components:
Component 1: Semi-static switching between two inter-band FDD carrier 1 and SDL carrier 2 with no simultaneous operation on the two bands and SCS of 15kHz on both the carriers
Component 2: Slot-level granularity to operate on only one band within a slot
Component 3: Switching gap location on SDL carrier for the case when switching from SDL carrier 2 to FDD carrier 1

Conclusion
In the previous sections we made the following observations:
Proposal 1 Support a basic feature group for the lowband CA via switching feature with mandatory support for the switching gap located on the “switch from” carrier. If Alt-1 is supported in the RAN1#120bis agreement, there is no need to define additional optional feature groups.

Conclusion
In this contribution, we discussed on UE features for low NR band carrier aggregation via switching from RAN1 perspective. We provided following observations:
Observation 1: There is no necessary RAN1 UE feature for LBCA via switching so far according to RAN1 agreements made at RAN1#120bis meeting.
Observation 2: It is generally preferable to have no RAN1 UE feature for LBCA via switching to minimize the RAN1 impact and operational complexity.
