a few words about my passions

Travel
Let's start with the cliche: I like traveling of different sorts.
My favorite destinations are big city mueseums and cultural/historical sites, countryside by road, and camping in mountains.
I particularly love road trips that start early in the morning. One of my records in driving is 2000 miles in two days. Yes, one driver. No, not recommended! 😀

Science
Science fascinated me from a very young age. I grew up with passion for a life of intellectual endeavors. That transformed into enthusiasm for all things science-related: books, documentaries, lectures, sci-fi films, philosophical debates, and more.
I'm a member of the Chicago Astronomical Society. My favorite stargazing sites near Chicago are Green River Conservation, IL and Kemil Beach, IN.

Films
Drama, sci-fi, fantasy, and almost any other genre when there is a good dramatic element. I enjoy watching films with company, especially the kind that talks, but doesn't spoil! 😄
I would find and attend movie nights fairly regularly prior to the pandemic. Filmfront of Chicago and Block Cinema at Nothwestern University were distinctive.

Skydiving
What? A Star Trek fan can't be a skydiver? 😉
I'm a USPA licensed skydiver with numerous jumps from airplanes and helicopters. My home dropzone is Chicagoland Skydiving Center. Among the various disciplines, I'm more interested in formation skydiving (FS) and tracking.
Next step? Maybe wingsuit.

Chess
I learned how to play chess from my father at the age of 6. He and I would play chess with my uncles and cousins everytime our families got together. Memories of playing bughouse chess at the Chess Club of the University of Alberta are unforgettable and priceless. But I never pursued an official title.
Nevertheless, I play online regularly and follow major world chess events. My favorite openings are Queen's Gambit with white pieces, and Sicilian Defense and King's Indian System with black pieces.
